Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
This is a three-year course. The PhD degree is awarded to candidates who have critically investigated and evaluated topics in a way which results in an independent and original contribution to knowledge, set out in a thesis that has been examined and defended at viva voce examination. Candidates must show general knowledge of the wider Held of scholarship to which their special topics belong.
For a person to be admitted to the PhD programme, one must have the following:
- A Master's Degree in the relevant field;
- The equivalent of a Masters degree evidenced by publications in the intended area of study;
- A first class Bachelors degree and publications in the intended area of study.
A candidate for the PhD must submit to the academic registrar a written application setting out one's academic qualifications and provide a brief statement about the area in which one intends to carry out research.
