School of Social Sciences

DeanThe school of Social Sciences herein abbreviated as SOSS is one of the new schools at Nkumba University. It was created in January 2005 from the then School of Education, Humanity and Social Sciences.

The School offers both Postgraduate and Undergraduate courses in the fields of Development and Community Studies, Public Administration and Political Studies. It runs Day, Evening and Weekend Programs to meet the needs of its students.

The school boasts of a pool of competent and committed staff with distinctive capabilities in their respective disciplines.

Vision

The vision of the School is to seek truth and strive towards excellence for the development and prosperity of African societies and humanity as a whole

Mission

The mission of the School of Social Sciences is to encourage development of human resource by promoting scholarship, research and creative activity. It is the school’s mission to prepare students to lead productive, responsible and satisfying lives in society by contributing to solving global challenges of governance and development.  The School seeks to provide a morally and socially oriented excellence that gives opportunity to those who seek good governance and sustainable development.

Administrative Structures of the School

The activities in the school of Social Sciences are coordinated by a Dean, Dr. Grace M. Kyeyune assisted by Head of Departments and Lecturers, an Administrative Assistant and a Secretary.

The School has two departments namely:

  • The Department of Development and Community Studies.
  • The Department of Public Administration and Political Studies.

School Projects

The School of Social Sciences has been engaged in a number of projects including:

  • HIV/AIDS Projects
  • Human Rights Project
  • Research Projects
