School Vision: To be the leader in business education in the university sector in the Great Lakes Region. School Mission: To produce business graduates who are informed, and can think critically, communicate effectively, act responsibly and ethically in an increasingly challenging business environment through prudent management of academic and professional activities. Among the six Schools of Nkumba University, the School of Business Administration (SBA) is easily recognized first, and that is because its history is closely linked to that of Nkumba College of Commerce and Advanced Studies whose preeminence countrywide and beyond was the teaching of business-related courses. In 1969, the earlier existing Nkumba Secondary School embraced vocational training, starting with the introduction of secretarial studies. The School name was then changed to Nkumba Secondary Modern. The addition of accounting courses a little later saw the institution evolve into Nkumba College of Commerce and Advanced Studies. The College of Commerce based its academic offers on the East African Examinations for Business Studies. These examinations would enable the graduates to compete for jobs anywhere in East Africa. By the 1980s Nkumba College of Commerce and Advanced Studies had carved an enviable name so much so that those who wished to undertake commercial studies aspired to enroll there – and then perhaps Nakawa College of Commerce. And it also explains why until now there is a lingering perception that Nkumba University conducts only commercial-related programmes. SBA graduates are fine ambassadors beyond the gates of Nkumba University – that is, in the world of work and among prospective students. Last edited on: July 2nd, 2011; 12:28pm |
